Between 2011 and 2012, I was commissioned by City Screen to photograph all their Picturehouse cinemas in London. I photographed the screens, the inside and outside spaces of each building.
While waiting for a screen to be cleaned or empty after a film screening, I used to sneak in the projection rooms (with permission from the projectionists, of course!) and made these photographs of what is now a fading out experience.
This is not a nostalgic look back, but rather a record of what was, sometimes is, but might not continue to be a form of experiencing a movie at the cinema.
