Marie Antoinette’s image and character was weaponised by her opponents through lurid tales and pornographic pamphlets. Years later, these rumours became coded language for same-sex desire between women (noted by 19th century diarist and lesbian icon Anne Lister). Riposte, collaborated with the V&A on this event, is a queer collective that puts on very unique art events. It has evolved from a house party with art across every surface, from ceilings to bathtubs and performances on the dinner table, to large-scale multi-room art-raves taking over iconic clubs.
