Sketchbook & Animation Youth Projects Exhibition, as part of Discover Young Hackney

Parasol unit foundation for contemporary art is delighted to present an exhibition of experimental and fantastical work generated by the young people who participated in the Sketchbook and Animation Youth Projects, at the foundation during half-term from 16 – 20 February 2015.
Organised as part of Discover Young Hackney and funded by Hackney Council, the Sketchbook and Experimental Animation projects enabled young people from the local community to work with creative media, while presenting them with the opportunity to curate and install their very own two-day public exhibition in the Education & Events Room at the gallery.
Sketchbook Project: Invitation to a Voyage A five-day morning workshop led by artist Hydar Dewachi fused art and technology and allowed the young people to select, copy, collect and generate visual imagery, using the Internet, photography, drawing and painting to create journals with visual compositions, characters and writing.
Experimental Animation: Brain Dance* A five-day afternoon project with Laura Kloss from Lightbox Cinema, which enabled young people to experiment with animation, working both on 16-mm film and with digital media. For two of the workshop sessions, the young people used digital SLR cameras and animation software to bring static images to life using stop-motion animation techniques.
